So I turned 50 this past Wednesday but starting about two weeks prior my sister Grace started the process of planning the day. We do this thing called “Sibling’s Day” whenever one of has a birthday where it’s only the four of us, no spouses and no kids. We just hang out together, enjoying each other’s company and reminiscing about the good ‘ol days.
I was in a terrible depression when Grace asked me if we could do something for my birthday and she suggested a Duffy boat. I had no idea what that was or what to expect. All she told me was that it was in Newport Beach and it would only be a 1-Hour ride. I reluctantly agreed, the shorter the better I thought.
Well, we pull up to the harbor and we see this small rowboat and I thought that was our boat. BUT GET THIS! It was this BEAUTIFUL private electric boat that made you feel like you were cruising around the Italian Riviera! My brother Eugene drove, we saw fish not just jumping but leaping out of the water, we saw a seal, and we made friends with a seagull that just hung out at the front of the boat the whole time. (We called her Soon Ju, the name of my late grandma who was like a mother to me. I miss her so much.)
If you’ve never taken a Duffy, go through Groupon to get a good deal. We got ours for $60 dollars for one hour. Regular price was $100. I searched to find ours but it looks like it’s been taken down but there is a 2-hour one that looks great too. My suggestion: bring drinks (alcohol or sparkling water) and a charcuterie board for an elevated, even more memorable experience!
Now here are some pictures from our excursion.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS EXPERIENCE!!!
